Supports HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP up to 10MB
How to convert an iPhone HEIC to JPG
- Pick the file: drag a HEIC file in or choose one up to 10 MB (on a phone, pick from the Camera Roll; on a computer, choose the .heic file from your drive).
- Leave the JPG button on (it is the default).
- Press "Convert", then press "Download". The file is named converted.jpg.
- HEIC is the file type an iPhone uses: Apple says iOS 11 was the first version to support HEIF, and that HEIF compresses better than JPEG at the same quality (Apple Support, https://support.apple.com/en-us/116944, dated 19 December 2025).
What changes in the file when you convert HEIC to JPG
We converted three test HEIC files made from a picture of a fabric softener pouch made with GenLabs (tested 30 September 2026). Our own program built the test files; they are not from a real iPhone. They store the picture sideways with a rotation value, and carry a camera make and a location, like a phone file does. A real file will be a different size.
| What | The HEIC you put in | The JPG you get |
|---|---|---|
| File size (4032 × 3024 picture) | 2.12 MB | 1.01 MB (1,034 KB) |
| File size (3000 × 4000 picture) | 2.1 MB | 1.0 MB (1,023 KB) |
| File size (2448 × 3264 picture) | 1.42 MB | 751 KB |
| Pixel size | stored sideways as 4032 × 3024 (and 4000 × 3000) with a rotation value | upright 3024 × 4032 (and 3000 × 4000), not shrunk |
| Location and camera make | in the file | not in the file you get |
- The picture comes out upright by itself, and not shrunk: a file that stores the picture sideways with a rotation value gave an upright JPG. A 4032 × 3024 file (12.2 million pixels) gave a 3024 × 4032 JPG at full size.
- Location and camera model do not travel with the JPG: in our test file the JPG we got back had no location and no camera model left (the location in the test file is one we put in ourselves).
- Time: about 3 seconds for the 4032 × 3024 picture, 2.4 seconds for the 3000 × 4000 one and 1.7 seconds for the 2448 × 3264 one (measured from our machine to the server, one file at a time).
- The JPG quality level is about 80 out of 100 and you cannot change it (we measured it from the file we got back).
- A real iPhone HEIC, such as a Live Photo or an HDR photo, was not tested.
What this tool does not do
- It does not take a file over 10 MB, a picture over 50 million pixels (width times height), or a picture with a side longer than 10,000 pixels: in our test a 4032 × 3024 HEIC (12.2 million pixels) and an 8064 × 6048 HEIC (48.8 million) converted at full size. The 8064 × 6048 file we built is small (563 KB) and took about 7 seconds. A refused file shows the message "This file is too large or can't be opened. Try a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC up to 10 MB." and does not use up one of your 5 free conversions.
- It does not convert in your browser: the file is uploaded to GenLabs' server to be converted, one file at a time. GenLabs does not store the result; it goes straight to your browser.
- It has no quality slider: for an even smaller JPG, convert here first, then reduce the JPG with the image compressor (https://genlabs.in.th/en/tools/image-compressor).
Other conversions
The picture opens now. Next, make product images from your phone photo.
A picture from an iPhone that now opens everywhere is still the photo you took. To get product images and ads from it, send the photo to GenLabs; a phone photo is fine. Pick a direction and GenLabs writes the prompts and makes the images: a set in 2 minutes. See what GenLabs does: https://genlabs.in.th/en/product

Can I upload a HEIC to Shopee, Lazada or LINE, and when do I need to convert?
HEIC is the file type an iPhone uses (Apple Support, dated 19 December 2025: https://support.apple.com/en-us/116944). Shopee, Lazada and LINE state JPG and PNG and list no HEIC (read on 29 September 2026; the sources are in the table on the image converter page: https://genlabs.in.th/en/tools/image-converter). Convert to JPG before you upload to any of them.
Is the converted picture upright, and does the place it was taken travel with it?
In our test a HEIC that stores the picture sideways at 4032 × 3024 gave a JPG that was upright at 3024 × 4032 pixels, full size, with no location and no camera model. Our program built the test HEIC; it is not from a real iPhone. It held a rotation value, a camera make and a location we put in ourselves. A Live Photo was not tested.
Can I convert a full-size iPhone picture (12 or 48 megapixels), and how big can it be?
Yes. In our test a 4032 × 3024 HEIC (12.2 million pixels) and an 8064 × 6048 HEIC (48.8 million pixels) both gave a full-size JPG. The limits are files up to 10 MB, and pictures up to 50 million pixels (width times height) with no side longer than 10,000 pixels. Anything over that shows the message "This file is too large or can't be opened. Try a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC up to 10 MB." A refused file does not use up one of your 5 free conversions. Our program built the test HEIC files; the 8064 × 6048 one is a smooth 563 KB picture, and a real 48 megapixel iPhone HEIC near 10 MB was not tested. If you do not want HEIC any more, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose "Most Compatible"; new photos are then saved as JPEG, as Apple's page says (https://support.apple.com/en-us/116944).
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on a computer?
Yes. In our test we chose a .heic file from a computer on this page in Chrome and converted it to JPG, with no program to install. A .heic file that the browser labels with no file type, or with the generic type application/octet-stream, converted too (we set that label ourselves in Chrome; Windows and Safari were not tested). The file is uploaded to GenLabs' server to be converted. It is free, 5 times a day, with no sign-up.
