remove.bg closes its website on 1 December 2026: what can replace it?
By remove.bg's own notice on its website, the standalone site will no longer be available from 1 December 2026 at 9:00am CET, and background removal is moving to Canva. Two options work right now: Canva, which remove.bg names as its replacement, and our free tool on this page. The table below shows how they differ.

remove.bg's FAQ (https://www.remove.bg/faq, read 29 September 2026) answers "Is there an alternative to remove.bg?" with "Yes - Canva's Background Remover. It uses the same background-removal technology as remove.bg." and says that for single images and bulk batches, Canva is the best replacement.

Plainly: our free tool has no brush to fix edges, no new-background option, and works one image at a time. Its file is a transparent PNG; one limit we found is that the edges of a glass sheet under the product can stay in the cut-out. If you want to fix edges yourself or place the cut-out on a new background inside an editor, Canva's page says it can and ours cannot, so choose Canva. If you want a transparent PNG of a product photo quickly, with no sign-up and no editor to open, use this page.
Remove a background online in 3 steps
Upload the image, wait about 9 seconds, then download the PNG. There is nothing to install.
- Upload the image. Drag it in or pick a PNG, JPG or WebP file up to 10 MB.
- Wait while the AI cuts out the background. It takes about 9 seconds, and a before/after slider shows the result.
- Download the transparent PNG and compare it with your original. Check the product's shape, its edges and the text on the label before you use it.
Real test results: 5 product images made in GenLabs
We sent 5 images made in GenLabs through this tool. All 5 came back as a PNG with a transparent background, the same size as the image we sent, with the subject's pixels unchanged. Partly see-through pixels are 0.8-5.8% of each image. The limits we saw are the edges of a glass sheet under the product (image 2) and a ragged lower edge where foam covers the jug (image 4). Tested on 29 September 2026 at 22:59-23:01 UTC, not logged in, after we updated the tool.

Is the file a PNG with a transparent background?
Yes. The file is a PNG with a transparent background. Every one of the 5 files we made has an alpha channel (the layer that stores transparency), at the same size as the image we sent, and the colours of the subject are the same as in your photo. Partly see-through pixels are 0.8-5.8% of each image. We tested only without logging in.
Two limits to know:
- Glass under the product: its edges can stay in the cut-out (the sunglasses on a sheet of glass kept two dark glass edges). We tested clear glass only, not a mirror.
- Something covering the product in the photo: where foam or anything else covers it, only the visible part is cut out (the laundry jug in foam has a ragged lower edge).

Can I use it for Shopee product images?
It cuts the background from a product photo. The file is a transparent PNG, not a white background, so compare it with your original every time before you list it. Shopee's Seller Education Hub recommends a white background and says a cover image must not be edited so the product looks different from reality (source: https://seller.shopee.co.th/edu/article/19781, page dated 23-09-2025, read 29 September 2026). This free tool has no white-background option. Shopee also says the Media Space (คลังมีเดีย) in Seller Centre can remove backgrounds (source: https://seller.shopee.co.th/edu/article/6985, page dated 19-09-2024, read 29 September 2026; we did not test it). The same page says the Media Space accepts JPEG/JPG/PNG image files up to 2 MB each. The five files we kept from this tool are 1.07-2.51 MB, and one of them (the laundry jug, 2.51 MB) is over 2 MB, so check the file size before you upload. A file over 2 MB can be reduced with our image compressor (https://genlabs.in.th/en/tools/image-compressor), and a PNG stays a PNG.

Does it handle hair, fur, glass and clear bottles?
In the images we tried, flying hair was kept as strands, and sunglasses with dark lenses and clear nose pads were cut out completely. But two dark edges of the sheet of glass they lay on stayed in the result (the reflection was gone). We have not yet tested animal fur or a clear bottle. Compare with your original every time.

Does the resolution drop after removing the background?
No. A 1086×1448 pixel image we sent came back 1086×1448, and a 1672×941 image came back 1672×941, in all 5 runs. The file is a PNG, and the colour of every pixel that is not transparent matches your photo (a difference of 0). The five files we kept are 1.07-2.51 MB.
How do I get a white background for Shopee?
This tool gives a transparent PNG, not a white background. For a white background straight away, use our change-background tool (https://genlabs.in.th/en/tools/change-background): free 3 a day, no sign-up, no watermark, a 2048 × 2048 JPG under 2 MB. You can also put this tool's transparent PNG on a white background in any image editor. Shopee's Seller Education Hub recommends a white background (https://seller.shopee.co.th/edu/article/19781, read 29 September 2026) and says the Media Space in Seller Centre can remove backgrounds (https://seller.shopee.co.th/edu/article/6985; we did not test it).
